Homemaker: An Important Job

Posted by Jeri on November 10, 2009

Mothering is tiring, busy, and sometimes frustrating; but most of all, it is rewarding.  Every day I get to spend time being a “homemaker”.  Making a home is a pretty important job, in my opinion – even if that means changing 15 diapers a day, rereading the same books, and not being able to leave the house without disturbing a nap schedule.  At the end of the day,  I may be very tired.  But at least I know that what I am doing is meaningful and irreplaceable.

When I start to forget how important my role is, I just look at my children.  I am so blessed to have healthy, happy, beautiful children.  It’s a job that is adventuresome, ever-changing, and never-ending.  I love the fact that I get to watch my children grow and learn.

Hannah is one incredible young girl.  At just four years, she amazes me with her helpfulness, common sense, and sense of humor.

Caleb has such a friendly smile and handshake.  He loves to “snuggle mommy” and help with the dishes.  He’s officially potty trained now!

Elizabeth is now four months old.  Everyone notices her smile and her head full hair.  She sleeps at least 10 hours every night.  What an amazing baby.

Those are 3 great reasons for being a homemaker, eh?

  1. Jerri, I loved this post. I have to remind myself of my role, and while I only have 2 right now I have days where I think, “I don’t do a whole lot.” But raising the children and keeping the home is a vital part of our ministry here. My mom stayed at home with 5. It was a no-glory job, but you are right… she says all she has to do is look at her children today.
Your kids are BEAUTIFUL. Maggie is almost 4 months and I THOUGHT she had a lot of hair. :) Your Elizabeth has her beat. Love from Peru!

  2. Oh what a timely post for me to read! Thank you. I think you do a wonderful job creating home for your family — even though I have not been to your actual home. Your kids are blessed and you efforts now will bless many!

Thanks, Nicole. I wish you could visit our home – after all, you are one of our closest neighbors!
